Amongst others, solar-powered technologies have seen a massive boost in the recent past, and as a result, the cost of solar power has dropped much faster as compared to what experts predicted earlier. Solar Power Is Much More Affordable Now!
According to ameta-analysis reporttitled “Empirically Grounded Technology Forecasts and the Energy Transition,”the cost of installing solar power was predicted to fall at an average rate of 2.6% each yearsince 2010. In fact, multiple experts predicted that the average cost-reductions of solar power would only go up to 6% YoY.
However, the cost of solar power, surprisingly,fell by 15% per year since 2010, thanks to the adoption of new solar-powered technologyin both the commercial as well as household sectors across the world. Back in 2010, the cost of residential solar power was reportedly around $7.53/W and the cost of utility-scale solar power was $5.66/W. In the first quarter of 2021, the price of residential solar power remained at $2.65/W and the cost of utility-scale solar energy was at just $0.89/W.
This shows that the cost of solar power has dropped significantly over the past years. These price dips have been primarilybacked by higher module efficiency and lower module cost. Going forward, the prices of different solar module technologies such as cadmium telluride, crystalline-silicone, and copper indium gallium diselenide, are predicted to drop further.
