Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Tested: Benchmarks and Performance
In our recentexplainer on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, we discussed all the essential details of Qualcomm’s new processor for Android flagship phones. That article only included the key on-paper specifications, without giving us any idea about the actual prowess of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Well, Qualcomm has done things a bit differently this time around and gave Beebom the opportunity to benchmark its latest chipset at Snapdragon Summit 2022 in Hawaii. So in this article, from Geekbench and AnTuTu to 3DMark, GFXBench, and more, we bring you the benchmark scores of Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for several intensive benchmark tests. So on that note, let’s jump in and see how the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 performs.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Benchmarked (2022)
In this article, we have examined Snapdragon 8 Gen 2’s performance based on scores from popular benchmark tools. We also tested the AI capabilities of the chipset and added benchmark scores from AITuTu, MLPerf, etc., in this guide. You can expand the table below and move to any section you want.
Note: We performed the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 benchmark tests on a prototype device provided by Qualcomm. We will update the guide with more hands-on benchmark results from an 8 Gen 2-powered OEM device in the future.

Before the benchmark scores, take a look at Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 specifications and learn about the CPU, GPU, ISP, AI, and other details right here:
Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Benchmark Scores
We performed the Geekbench test on the prototype device powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, and itscored 1490 in the single-core testand 5131 in the multi-core test. While it didn’t cross the 1500-mark in the single-core test, the processor surpassed the 5000-mark in the multi-threaded test.
Note that the prime Cortex-X3 core on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 isclocked at 3.19GHz. However,UniverseIceon Twitterreported that Qualcomm is offering Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 with a higher-frequency CPU (Cortex-X3 clocked at 3.36GHz) to Samsung for the launch of the Galaxy S23 series. That means the Cortex-X3 core can go beyond the default 3.2GHz frequency, and if that is the case, the 8 Gen 2 may be able to breach the 1500-mark and score even higher in the single-core Geekbench test.
Not to forget, we ran Geekbench on a reference device provided by Qualcomm. Phone makers will certainlyoptimize the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2with better cooling and heat dissipation techniques, so it’s likely that the Geekbench scores will improve in the future. Nevertheless, looking at the current figure, we can say that Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 packs a powerful CPU.
After the Geekbench test, we also performed the AnTuTu benchmark test on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. It scored a monumental1,275,749 pointson the AnTuTu test. Breaking down the score, the processor achieved 270,867 points in terms of CPU, scored 567,801 in the GPU segment, 239879 in memory, and finally, got 198,202 points in UX performance. Overall, Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 has thehighest AnTuTu scoreany mobile chipset has ever received.
Based on the prototype device, Qualcomm provided us with the PCMark 3.0 score of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. We did not get a chance to independently run the PCMark test on the reference design but will do so once we have an official OEM device at hand.
As for the PCMark score, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 scored an average in the ballpark of18500 to 18900after 3 iterations. In case you are unaware, PCMark is a holistic benchmarking tool that tests performance and battery life. It checks how well the processor handles common productivity tasks like web browsing, video editing, working with documents, etc.
To test the Adreno 740 GPU (clocked at 680MHz) on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, we performed two different yet intensive 3DMark tests. So check out the results here.
We witnessed the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 deliver81.3 FPSin the 3DMark WildLife test and22.5 FPSin the 3DMark WildLife Extreme test. If we talk about the overall scores achieved in the 3DMark tests, the SD 8 Gen 2 was able to score13,575in the WildLife test and3,764in the WildLife Extreme test.Benchmark TestFPSOverall Score3DMark WildLife81.313,5753DMark WildLife Extreme22.53,764
The Adreno 740 GPU on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC also performed exceptionally well in various GFXBench 5.0 tests. To begin with, in the GFXBench Manhattan 3.0 Offscreen 1080p test, theGPU achieved 332 FPSanddelivered 226FPSin the GFXBench Manhattan 3.1 Offscreen 1080p test.
Moving to the intensive Aztec Ruins Offscreen 1080p (Normal Tier) test, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 scored 179 FPS, which is quite good. Qualcomm provided us with many AI benchmarks of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 as well, but we independently verified a couple of them at the event. Of those,MLPerfis quite popular, and you can find the results for Image Classification, Object Detection, Image Segmentation, etc., in the table below.
Apart from that, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 scored over 2 million in the ETH AIBenchmark test,3,628,796 in the AITutu test(screenshot above), and finally, it scored over 157k in the AIMark test.AI Benchmark TestsSnapdragon 8 Gen 2 ScoreMLPerf — 30 minutes test (1 iteration)Image Classification: 3920Object Detection: 1800Image Segmentation: 950Language Understanding: 185Image Classification (offline): 5020ETH AIBenchmark (Average of 3 iterations)~ 2,070,000 to 2,100,000AITutu (1 iteration)3628796AIMark (1 iteration)~ 157000 to 159000
If you are wondering about browser benchmark scores, we got our hands on those numbers as well. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 achieved over 167 in the Jetstream test. And if we talk about the popularSpeedometer 2.0 test, the processor managed to score 146 points. Finally, in the WebXPRT 3 test, it scored 220 points.
